From the Amazon listing.

We make three men's gifts and the guides that go with them: a flask set wrapped in PU leather, a pair of glass polishing cloths, and a refillable buffalo leather journal. Three products, not a catalog of two hundred. Each one gets handed over on a specific day and then used for years afterward, which is a different job from the gadget that gets opened once and photographed.

Excalibur Brothers started in 2003 as a sword and knife distributor. At some point it stopped only moving other people's stock and began making its own line of giftware, which is where the flask, the cloths and the journal come from. The line on the rest of the site is "Gifts Fit For A King", and that's the last you'll hear of it here. Nothing is sold on this site. Every button below goes to the product's Amazon listing.

Excalibur Brothers men's gifts: leather flask set, glass polishing cloths and leather journal

The leather flask set

Men's Leather Flask (Brown) with 2 Cups and Funnel $34.95 ยท 4.6โ˜… ยท 107 Amazon reviews

Eight ounces of 304 stainless steel under a smooth PU leather wrap, boxed with two pony shot glasses, a funnel and a wooden case. Most people shopping for a flask for men end up on a set like this one, because a bare flask handed over without a box reads like a gas station purchase.

8 oz PU leather flask with two pony shot glasses, funnel and wooden presentation case

The wrap is PU: polyurethane over a backing1, not hide. We say that up front because plenty of listings don't. What you get for it is a surface that wipes clean when someone spills rye on it, never needs conditioning, and costs a fraction of a full-grain wrap. What you give up is patina. It will look the same in five years as it does in the box, for better and worse.

The steel is the part that decides whether a flask is any good, and this one is 304 with a laser-welded seam rather than a soldered one2. Solder lines are where flasks start to weep. Excalibur Brothers states the body is air-pressure tested and leak-proof; that's the brand's claim about its own production, not a bench test we ran.

Full specs, capacity and materials are on the leather flask product page. If the man getting it has never owned one, how to fill, carry and clean a hip flask covers the parts nobody explains.

The glass polishing cloth

Glass Polishing Cloth (2 Pack) $22.95 ยท 4.6โ˜… ยท 89 Amazon reviews

Two microfiber cloths, 23.5 by 20 inches each. Lint-free, used damp or dry, no spray or chemical needed.

Polishing a wine glass with a large lint-free microfiber cloth

Wine glasses come out of the dishwasher with water spots and come out of a dish towel with lint. That's the whole problem this solves. The size matters more than it sounds: at 23.5 by 20 inches you can get one hand inside the bowl and support the base with the other, which is how stems stop snapping.

They also work on windows, eyeglasses, phone and laptop screens, and the stainless front of a fridge that shows every fingerprint. Wash them and use them again.

The wine glass polishing cloth page has the specifics. If the glasses are already cloudy, start with wine glass care instead, because no cloth fixes etching.

The leather journal

Premium Leather Journal for Men $14.95 ยท 4.6โ˜… ยท 7 Amazon reviews

A6, so 4.3 by 5.9 inches. Dark brown buffalo leather cover, pen loop, a bookmark with the EB emblem, a 100-page ivory insert, and a keepsake box.

A6 refillable buffalo leather journal for men with pen loop and keepsake gift box

This one is real hide, unlike the flask wrap, and it behaves like hide: it darkens where a thumb sits, and it takes conditioner once or twice a year.

Refillable is the point. The leather is a cover, and the 100-page insert slides out when it's full, so the thing that gets carried for a decade is the cover, not the paper. Seven reviews is a thin sample and we're not going to dress it up; the product is new.

More on sizing and refills at the leather journal page, and if you're buying for someone who actually writes, gifts for writers is the shortlist.

Men's gifts by occasion

Father's Day

The flask set, most of the time. It photographs well when it's opened at a table with everyone watching, and the two cups mean he can pour you one back, which is the part that makes it land.

Groomsmen

The flask set again, at $34.95 a head. One warning: there is no engraving on ours. If the groomsmen gifts you have in mind are personalized with names and a date, buy them somewhere that engraves. If what you want is something they'd use in November at an outdoor game, this is it.

Christmas

All three sell hardest in December, which is also when delivery estimates start sliding and the cheap shipping tier stops being cheap. Order in the first half of the month and the flask arrives in a wooden box instead of a screenshot.

Retirement

The journal. People who retire start writing things down, and a pocket-sized cover that outlives its paper suits a habit that may last twenty years. At $14.95 it also works as the gift five colleagues go in on together with something else.

For the man who has everything

The cloths. Nobody buys themselves a $22.95 pair of polishing cloths, and everybody who owns decent stemware needs them. Gifts for men who have everything usually fail because they aim higher. This one aims sideways.

How to look after them

A flask is a vessel, not storage. Fill it the morning of, empty it that night, rinse it while it's still wet and leave the cap off to dry. Leave bourbon in one for six months and the taste that comes out is not the steel's fault. How to fill, carry and clean a hip flask has the method, including the part about drying the inside.

Glassware is mostly about water, not soap. Hard water leaves spots, and those spots turn into a permanent haze if they're left long enough. Wash by hand in warm water, dry immediately with the cloth while the glass is still warm, and hold the bowl instead of the stem. Wine glass care covers the spots, the film and the difference between the two.

Buffalo leather wants very little. Keep it out of the sun and away from radiators, wipe dust off with a dry cloth, and put conditioner on it once or twice a year, worked in thin with your fingers. How to condition leather has the routine and the products worth using. The flask wrap needs none of this; PU takes a damp cloth and nothing else.

Men's gifts FAQ

What do groomsmen want for gifts?

Something they'd have bought for themselves. Drinking gear, or tickets to something they'd have paid for anyway. The gifts that die in a drawer are the ones with the wedding date printed on them, because the object exists to commemorate your day rather than to be used on any of theirs.

What is the best flask for men?

The one with a 304 stainless body, a welded seam and a cap that stays shut in a pocket. Capacity is preference: 6 oz hides better under a jacket, 8 oz holds two more drinks. Plated or soldered bodies are where leaks and metallic aftertaste come from. Laws on carrying one vary by state and venue.

What are some good gadgets for writers?

Most things sold as writer gadgets are pens that cost too much. The ones that get used are the ones that travel: a pocket notebook that survives a jacket, and a pen that doesn't blot in one. Our gifts for writers list is the honest version.
